Customer Experience

19 of us (ages 5 to 70+) booked an excursion with Marysol Tours to go horseback riding while in port at Amber Cove. The price for this excursion was amazing for what it offered my family. Francisco handled all the booking information and set us up for a wonderful experience. After a walk out of the cruise terminal and a short ride to the stables we were each paired with a horse. The ride out was about 1 hour (mostly along a beach) and then out into the water around a point to a private beach. We hung out playing in the ocean and sand for about 30 minutes before mounting back up. From there we spent more time riding back toward the stables and even took a short side trip into the local village of Maimón. The trip was beautiful and everything was handled perfectly by Fransisco and his staff. I highly recommend his company and especially the horseback riding. More

First time our family went on a cruise together and booked this excursion. Was SO glad we did! First of all, if your cruise ship going to Amber Cove, make sure you book an excursion of some sort, as Amber Cove is a small only tourist shops and a paid beach/resort area. It is like you are not truly in the Dominican as you can not leave the little touristy area if you don't book an excursion. I do have to say that unfortunately this would Not be a great excursion for babies, toddler, elderly or handicap. After you get off the cruise ship, you will immediately have to walk about 1/2 mile, out of the touristy area and down a road to a few tour guides standing on the side of the road with signs that say Mariysol Tours. You will be loaded in the back of a tram (like a pickup truck w/ benches in back) Please be cautious of traffic as there is NO speed limit in the Dominican! It is a very short ride only 2-5 minutes to the ATV location. Once you arrive, they wait to bring 2-3 other loads of your group to you. I believe about 12-15 ATVs in a group at once. They will individually take you on a test drive to make sure everyone is capable of driving their own ATV. IF NOT, you will need to double on with another... They will individually take you on a test drive to make sure everyone is capable of driving their own ATV. IF NOT, you will need to double on with another passenger. We had MANY first time riders in our group and everyone was fine. The ATVs are so easy to drive, as you only use your thumb for the gas and right foot for the brake.
THEIR IS A WEBSITE ERROR, stating that AGE 13 and up are allowed to drive their own ATVs. We bought ones for our 13 and 14 year olds. We arrived, they informed us that was an error and the drivers should be 16 and up. HOWEVER since we already paid for them to drive their own ATVs, as long as they passed the drive test they would allow them to have their own ATVs. (They passed & they drove with no issues!)
They DO provide helmets HOWEVER MAKE SURE you bring your own bandana and either sunglasses or goggles. These are a MUST as you will be COVERED in dirt/dust by the end of the excursion. If you do not bring them, bandanas are for sale for $1 each and goggles are for rent for $5 each. Also make sure to wear sneakers and sunscreen as it iS HOT! They provide bottled water, but feel free to bring your own. You can tie your bag onto your ATV.
Our tour guide led us with his 7 year old son and did a great job. We had a mechanic as the caboose and a photographer taking pics and video for $40 charge if you would like to buy all of it at the end. (He does a great job!)
We did 2 stops at a beach which was beautiful for a quick dip (10 minutes) and 2 stops at 2 residences. One we held their pet bird and snake and could buy handmade jewelry and other small trinkets. The other they gave us free samples of cigars, alcohol drink, coffee and hot chocolate that hey made there - all for purchase. $5 each for chocolate & coffee. DELISH!!!
We also stopped on the road and guide pointed out with Jurassic Park 1 was filmed!!
Everyone very friendly, everyone speaks little English but enough to get by. My husband is bilingual and it was a huge asset.
We tipped tour guide and mechanic $20 each at end of tour, a few others followed suit. They did an excellent job and we strongly recommend and will do again!
We paid for 2 1/2 hour tour and they extended to 3 hours for no additional charge. We did not fee rushed at all. More
